Tear in HD gold sail
So I have torn the sail. On the foot near the tack. Between edge of window and soft sail foot. 4-5 inches.
I have some gold sail cloth. Not sticky can I glue a repair ???

I believe HD still use the MAXX cloth but it cannot be sourced in gold anymore only black, i know this because i enquired about a new sail a while back.
Your story isn't unusual for laminate sails as they delaminate, get sun damage and shrink! so naturally they get weaker and tear along the creases. Some refer to this as them going over the 'cliff' when they have a series of failures until you dispose of them. You can still get Dacron sails which don't suffer from this but do gradually decline in their performance but ultimately you can use them almost forever.
