Reduced area rig

A signicant number of older sailors are either choosing not to sail in stronger winds to avoid capsize or even leaving the Class. Many of the key people who work hard for the Solo are out on the ( excellent) Open meeting

circuit where this is rarely seen and are unaware of the significance.

The various righting line options make things better- but its still a long pull and a knit of ropes and steps has a significant risk of tangles. The " b" rig has been there for years- looks dreadful and you find me some sailors with 50 years experience who are willing to hoist one in front of their mates.

So Will Loys excellent suggestion of a full smaller rig is vital .When its approved it will retain older sailors and very possibly more women and younger sailors

SOLO RIGHTING LINES

Hi I have just acquired a 1997 Tony Thresher-built Solo and wondered if anyone has details of how to rig righting lines please?

Andrew Liddingtons super step righting lines has details on the website

I used a simple deck eye screwed into the underside of the thwart with the line going to shock cord off the rudder fittings- less chance of a tangle

Solo sailors are famous for not interacting- I would speak to Chris Brown cbcoverstore after the holidays who can advise and sell you the bits needed

KEEL BANDS

Hi all, I expect like me you don't take much time thinking about keel bands. However I had quite a surprise recently when I turned over my Winder 1 to do some hull polishing. The brass keel bands either side of the centreboard case were looking extremely rough. Closer inspection showed that they were oxidising (if that's what brass does) and quite lumpy. A quick rub down with some sand paper followed by a rub down with Scotbrite pad and they are almost as good as new. Should be worth an extra second or so around the race track -😜

Before and after pic.
