Solo Class Open Saturday 22nd August Oxford Sailing Club
After a long break, Oxford Sailing Club are pleased to be able to invite Solo sailors to an Open Meeting once again. It will be part of a joint Open for Lightnings and British Moths which has long been a fixture at the Club. The Club has in the 80s and 90s hosted the Inlands, Springs as well as being the host for the very first Winter Champs in 198?, a foggy affair as I remember it! As many of you will know Farmoor reservoir is a good size, which we hope will see at least a

Solo National Championship Day 4
P+B Solo National Championship Day 4 The final day of this magnificent Solo Championship dawned hot and sunny, just a thin line of cirrus nimbus spoiling an otherwise deep blue stratosphere. Torbados had already delivered some fabulous weather and the forecast was for 10-14 knots from due south, though there was a short delay with the competitors held ashore until the RO was happy. The points were tight between the top three challengers, Davenport having a four point advantag

P+B Solo National Championship Day 3
P+B Solo National Championship Day 3 After an early start of editing, processing, charging and publishing it was a body blow to receive a competitor WhatsApp from the RO, the brief message suggesting that we would be launching at the prescribed time, I had just ordered my breakfast, the bay looking ideal for fly fishing, not dinghy racing. The Lymington Seagulls were soon circling my table but a few strong words and threats of harm soon dispersed the insatiable pests though H

P+B Solo National Championship Day 2
P+B Solo National Championship Day 2 The day dawned like any other 2026 Torbados Summer day, buckets of sunshine and a gentle breeze though its northerly direction hinted that this heatwave might soon be over, until the next one. Competitors meandered to the vicinity of the boat park from all quadrants of the town though I would be surprised if any made it out of Hele though I am sure the accommodation fees would have been minimal. Steve Watson, our NSCA Jury arrived with a s

P+B Solo National Championship Day 1
P+B Solo National Championship Day 1 The Solo fleet have returned to Torbay, the last time we visited was 2017 and before that 2008 so it’s not hard to work out, one the NSCA event algorithm is in working order and two, we will not be back until 2035. Royal Torbay Yacht Club stands proudly amongst some very typically victorian architecture and the vista from its beer garden is something to behold, especially when drenched in sunshine and that is the forecast for the week, alb

Solo National Champs starts tomorrow
Solo National Championship Promo There is no let-up for the poor blighters in Torbados, having just delivered an epic Fireball Worlds, the Royal Torbay Yacht Club is this week hosting the Solo National Championship and with around 80 pre-entries, it should be a marvellous event. The fleets from north of the border are here with a crack squad, only Charlie Brecknell, who’s van died last week is missing while Stuart Gibson is my pick as their best hope of wrestling the Old Jug

70th Anniversary Inland Championship
Grafham Water Sailing Club Further details to follow but we are hoping to hold racing for the standard fleet with a separate start and course for the Vintage catergory and those who wish to race in a smaller fleet, this will hopefully provide less experienced sailors a chance to race on a big water and enjoy the Solo's 70th Birthday weekend. Chris Brown has organised an evening at the local pub, the Wheatsheaf which is well known for providing great food and hospitality. So p

A Loss to the Solo Class
It is with great sadness we have to announce the passing of one of our former Class Presidents, Gordon Walls. Gordon served on the Committee in various roles before taking the big seat from Winston Knight in 1982, relinquishing it to Craig Moffett in 1984. The Class was in quite a dire situation with boats sales dropping off and some dissention amongst the ranks so it was a breath of fresh air to have this man leading the way forward. I remember Gordon with warmth, a gentlema

The Nigel Pusinelli Trophy and Southern ChampionshipSponsored by P+B and CB Coverstore
Felpham Sailing Club did all they could, both bacon and sausage baps were available in a galley that could have fed an army though the 19 entries did their best to besiege the team with orders way larger than stomachs. With fleet members attending both Merlin Week and the 505 Worlds at nearby Hayling Island, a reduced entry was a given but the local car meet at Goodwood had sent accommodation prices beyond even those lucky enough to enjoy a retirement package with plenty of s

The Nigel Pusinelli Trophy, incorporating the Southern Championship, sponsored by P+B Promo
This weekend is shaping up to be an epic encounter for those Solo sailors who venture to Felpham to contest the Nigel Pusinelli Trophy, the two day event coincides with another climate change/El Niño induced heatwave and North Easterly winds forecast to provide ideal hiking conditions. Class President Guy Mayger comments: “Looking ahead to the Nigel Pusinelli and Southern Area champs at Felpham this weekend, it certainly looks like it’s going to be a hot one! Firstly, apologi
