Rule change with immediate effect!

Mindful of the class’s 70th anniversary, Class Measurer Jonathan Woodward and the Solo Class Association Committee would like to advise members that all Solos should now have a washboard fitted, in accordance with the original plans and blueprints.

The first boats from the new PD Composites mould have already been adjusted accordingly, with other builders following suit.

This not only returns the boats to the true aesthetic of the original design, but also reduces the amount of water shipped over the foredeck, as Jack Holt (OBE) intended.

Comments from those who have already upgraded their boats include Andy “Taxi” Davis of HD Sails, who reports that there appear to be aerodynamic benefits to the washboard, enhancing the end-plate effect of the sail.

Current National Champion Olly Davenport comments that the improved airflow aids his hiking while keeping his tactical brain cool, and Tom Gillard says he can hide behind his washboard and enjoy a sandwich in the dry between races. It’s a win-win all round!

Please note that hulls will need to be remeasured and correctors adjusted accordingly once the washboard has been installed. Carbon fibre optional. We will also be applying a new "Loof Lirpa" test to all sailors prior to competition. Please ensure you don't get caught out.

Signed,

National Solo class committee
