I sailed with Bill at Reading in the early 70's in the yellow peril. It had a wooden mast and boom. Had a tendency to leak a bitso a sponge was always needed espeacially down wind. Bill won an open at Stanlake and most of the Club trophies. An inspiration to us up an coming Solo sailors p[eople like Jim Absolom(junior champion), me, Steve Gower (15 yrs old) who was unbeatable at the club and some opens. I last met Bill at Burghfield in recent times when I was sailing Solo 93.ie half of 186 (bills boat) so we had an jolly good chat about fast wooden boats. Steve. ps Wooden boats can be fast, Stone Lovett,Gosling,Ava craft,Willets(runnymede dinghys all sailed in the Thames Valleyin the 70's. and load more after that.
