Yesterday I took my solo 1435 to the Vintage Champs at Leigh on Sea. From the moment I arrived it was a warm welcome and I was given all the help that I needed. Willing hands were there to help launch and recover the boat, a freshly made cup of tea and bacon butty on arrival, a secure and safe place to park my car. The course was a simple trapezium that stayed the same every race making it easy to know where I was racing, there was an excellent area of water and the support boats were quick to respond to anybody who needed help. I came away knowing more about how to sail my boat as a result of the friendly advice from those who know and still regularly sail these older boats. If you have a boat that qualifies and are considering attending one open meeting next year then I would strongly advise you to consider attending this event next year. It was clear that this is an event where taking part was every bit as important as winning. Thank you Leigh on Sea Sailing Club for organising the event.
