I'm looking for some advise on up wind setting for a cumulus mast and North F3 sail, do people stick to North tuning guide or try something different, I seem really slow and can't point nearly as close to the other boats around me
Thanks Chris, I've got 4541 which is a Thresher FRP hull that was decked by the 1st owner ( one of the kits Tony supplied back in the day) my mast is only 2 seasons old so one of the later cumulus masts, I've read somewhere to leave the traveller in the centre with the cumulus and apply kicker to keep the boom over the quarter? Due to the front bulkhead my mast is a little too far back but when I measured the rake it was bang on the tuning manual, I'll double check the forestay adjustment as I believe I may have set it up so it was just under tension when the mast was touching the back of the gate but then didn't let it off 1-2 holes, if you have some video that would help massively, I've just moved to HISC so it's like sailing an open meeting every week, thought I was going OK in the handicap fleet at my other club, how wrong I was 🤣
Hi Darren, lots of members at HISC very happy to help you get up to speed :-) Whilst there are some differences, Chris' advice gives a great baseline to work from. As you say, it's a bit of a tough fleet but I/we are all happy to give you some help whether that be with your rig or navigating the harbour... which is perhaps the area of biggest gain. I'll be there Wednesday and most Sundays. Cheers, Guy 5691

I'll be down on Wednesday cheers Guy, hopefully see you before we go out, my boat is behind dunes, so launch off the beach by the car park
hi darren, it could be a few things
yes the norhh guide is about right
you will never pooint as highta some one light in low wind , but when your sitting on the side you should be pointing high ,
shroouds just tight when front of mast is 5mm from fornt gate
forstay just tight when touching back gate then less one or 2 holes ,
what boat , what mast rake do you have,
where do you put travler in light winds ,
your mast might need upgrading as there moved on a lot. m2 is most popopur now ,
sedn some vides if you want
