Fitting new style Rooster Solo Toe Straps topic

Carol Andrews posted this 21 January 2018

I am replacing my old webbing toe straps on my beautiful Wooden Beckett Solo. The old straps were attached with screws and plates through the webbing to the hog in the aft section and folded over in the fwd part and attached with line. The new toe straps have a metal eye in the aft end and the straps are much shorter than the old straps. What is the best method for attaching the aft end of the straps? Do I attach a fixing plate to the hog and then attach cord to the toe strap eye and the fixing plate. Or is there a better method?

I bought Rooster Toe straps, not sure if they have changed them, but I think the metal eye is the fwd end of the strap. I fitted them to my Winder FRP that has an adjuster rope at the fwd end that ties off through the eye. The aft end is simply webbing that bolts into a moulded part of the boat.

Any help?

Thanks Brian That is useful to know. The new straps are so much shorter than the old ones and being an older Solo I suspect I have the wrong type. One option is a newer Solo but I love my Beckett. It’s a nice problem to ponder. Carol S 3615

Rooster are a super company and I am sure will help to get your straps fitted. But if you want to replicate the current fitting, Chris at Creation covers makes excellent straps to replicate your originals to fit in the same way.

Change the Becket? bit like trading in a Jaguar E type for a Ford Fiesta! the market will realise soon the value of the wooden boats and the pleasure of having something with character and history- and that go faster than many think!

Thank you everyone. It was definitely worth getting a few ideas. I also rang Rooster who were absolutely super. I will have to do a bit of tweaking due to the fact that the straps are for a newer style of Solo but the good news is, it is not an impossible job. I might see if I can post a few pictures with my final solution to the new toe straps on my Beckett Solo. Just need a dry day.
