New Vintage section.

Welcome to the new Vintage Section of the Solo Forum.

The aim of the section is to give people a chance to share their renovation stories, repairs or to ask questions around Older Solos.

Feel free to post your stories here, comment on others or ask question around older Solos.

whats the plan for the vintage section? as my solo like may others are no longer competitive with the boats that travel around with the midland circuit will there be a vintage series? at my club theres only one modern solo and it may be better to host a vintage open instead of a normal sailing open.

Hi David,

One reason to create the Vintage section was gage opinions of the class. Thank you for your post.

The association is very supportive of older boats and would/do support vintage events but it does require volunteers to organise these things.

I would start by talking to the new Mildand Area Rep (Maria E Franco) who has just volunteered to run the Midland Series.

Thankyou for the response, at Trimpley (my club) the solo fleet is a relatively new fleet as its traditionly a GP and laser club. Im hoping that by hosting a small event each year it will give someting for novice solo sailors to have something to work towards.

i'll drop an email to maria over winter and see what i can do to help.

I had a Boon 4125 and sail a Miles 4217 so I think yours is " current" 🤣. I think Steve changed to double floor around this time- is yours classic style or double floor?

Good question - I would also like to know. I haver an all-wood Boon from 2005 but I don't think that is in the "vintage" category. It would be good to see what is considered vintage defined here...

And calling the section

" Vintage" is a good plan with especially the older wooden boats having character like a nice bottle of wine😉

And think of all that money saved whilst still being competitive at club level!
