I'm waiting for a new knee, and thinking that with the wide age range of solo sailors - there must be total knee replacements out there sailing solos? If you are and do, please can you let me know your experience? Will I be able to hike out comfortably? Is there anything I might need to consider or will it all be plain sailing?
Thanks Sal

Hi Sal, sorry to hear about your situation.
From my understanding no two knee ops are the same!
I am somewhat older than you, by some margin (73). As you say a wide age range of Solo sailors. Total knee replacement in October last year sailing beginning of March - start of our sailing season, was ready before then.
No issues, hiking no problem. So much better than before the op and on board language is vastly improved, commented on by fellow sailors.
Work on the flexion.
Hip replacement 2015.
Go for it.

I found it tough going after my new knee. Its the lack of flexsion (bending) of the knee that will inhibit your movement so I suggest you work on getting good flexsion first. I also found that improving my general fitness and flexibility really helped as well. Pilates made a huge difference to both. Good luck with the knee op.
