The Solo Association are always looking for ways to move the class forward for the members. The
Solo class has a very high calibre of sailors moving through the class and are using this talent
to help all Solo class sailors improve, be they Sunday club sailor or at the highest level.
Putting a number of top solo sailors though the RYA Class coaching course has given all class
members an increased opportunity to attend structured coaching days free of charge, from basic
to advanced, sailing at a local sailing club.
These courses are run all over the country and are available to all clubs on request. The
courses are run around your club, for you and at the level determined by you, namely
Basic, Intermediate or Advanced.
The Solo Association also run Training Days the day before some major events, which gives
competitors the chance to adapt to the venue and hone up there sailing skills. Guest speakers
also attend some events.
The Solo Association takes Health & Safety very seriously and the trainers endeavour to work
in a professional manner and a high standard when running courses. A trainer will have a maximum
of eight trainees, all of the same calibre. This enables all trainees the opportunity to learn
and get the best from each session and the coach enough time to help each trainee individually.
The minimum requirements for a training day led by Solo Association Trainers are:
- 1 rib/rescue boat for the use of each trainer
- 1 rescue boat and crew per 16 trainees
- Max of eight trainees per trainer
- Three movable marks per trainer
These requirements are for the heath and safety of all trainees and are required before training
will commence.
If you feel that there might not be sufficient people of similar standard within your club to
have a day structured as above, why no consider a joint training day with a nearby Solo club.
The overall aim is that EVERY participant will find the day of benefit.
