It's fifty years since Jack Holt designed the Solo dinghy in 1956. The Class Assocication and several sailing clubs are organising a series of events to mark the occasion. Details of these events are listed below. If your sailing club is holding a related event, let us know the details and we'll add it to this list.
Dinghy Show, Alexandra Palace, 4th & 5th March 2006

Once again, the Solo stand proved hugely popular. This year the stand was the largest ever, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the class. All types of construction were represented on the stand:
- Solo 2. All wood construction and fifty years old! The first boat built by Jack Holt as the prototype. No 1 was built later but registered first.
- Solo 4676 - a composite boat from Kevin Gosling.
- Solo 5000 - all FRP from Winder. This boat will be won by one lucky Association member in a special draw.
As usual, there were plenty of enthusiastic Association members manning the stand helping visitors with queries about the boat, the Association and the wide range of events and open meetings organised every year.
Every fully paid up member of the Class Associaion, as at February 28th, will be automatically entered into a draw to win Solo 5000, so get your renewal forms in now!

Rutland Evening, 17th June 2006
Whether you're competing in the Inlands or not, come along to Rutland Sailing Club on Saturday evening, 17th June, to celebrate the Solo's 50th Birthday.
The evening will be a mixture of events - there will be a live band providing entertainment during the evening, punctuated by the presentation of the sponsors prizes after Day 1 - Pinnell & Bax will be providing a range of prizes that will be presented to those competitors outside of the top 20.
Also during the evening the draw for Solo 5000 will take place, will you be the winner?? Make sure you're there to find out if you've won the complete boat - not all last years members got their memberships in on time to be eligible for the draw so you have a 1 in 919 chance of winning!
For Inland championship entrants the entry fee for the event will be £20.00 (yes, lower than last year) and this will include the evening event on the Saturday complete with your food! Tickets for the evening event for those wanting to attend but not sailing will be £10.00 and available on the day - however some idea on numbers for the catering will be needed so please register your intention on the entry list for this event. Food will be a hot buffet of hog and beef roast and a dessert to follow - the bar will also be open during the event.
Champion of Champions Event, 5th August 2006
The Champion of Champions event will be held on Saturday 5th August at Felpham Sailing Club. This one day event is preceded by the 2006 Nationals, also at Felpham, thereby giving competitors ample time to practice! Entry will be limited to helms who have achieved a top five finish in any Solo World, UK National or UK Inland championship along with sailors who have achieved a top three finish in the Dutch Nationals. Invitations to this event will be issued in February, but if you believe you qualify but have not received an invitation please contact Steve Ede via the e-mail page on this site.
Spectators for this event will be very welcome.
